Do I need permission for a dropped kerb?
You need the relevant highway authority’s permission to create or alter a vehicle crossing over a public pavement or verge. Planning permission may also be required, depending on the road and property. We can help you understand the application route, but the council makes the approval decision.
Can any property have one?
Approval depends on the site. Parking depth, visibility, distance from junctions, trees, street furniture, utility apparatus and drainage can all matter. A site assessment helps identify these issues before you commit to construction.
How much will my dropped kerb cost?
We provide a written construction quote after assessing your property. Council application and permit fees are separate unless your quotation expressly includes them. The county guide above explains some of the authority charges.
Can you widen my existing crossing?
Yes, we can assess an extension to an existing crossing. An existing dropped kerb does not automatically give permission to widen it: the authority needs to agree the changes.
How long does the process take?
Council assessment and any planning requirements affect the overall timescale. Once approvals are in place, we agree an installation date and expected duration with you. We will not promise an approval date that is outside our control.
Can you install the driveway as well?
Yes. We can quote for a dropped kerb together with block paving, tarmac, resin, gravel or associated groundworks. The driveway layout, drainage and vehicle crossing can then be planned as one project.
